The committee will be considering funds for our mission in Afghanistan this year and next, and the implications for budgets in the future.

WASHINGTON - House Budget Committee Chairman John Spratt (D-SC) made the following statement today after the Senate passed statutory PAYGO legislation. Spratt was an original sponsor and floor manager of the PAYGO bill in the House. The bill is expected to come back to the House next week for a vote on final passage before it goes to the President for his signature.

Spratt Votes to Spur Aid, Relief for Haiti
WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. John Spratt (D-SC) this week voted to help earthquake victims in Haiti by offering an immediate benefit to Americans who make charitable contributions to aid the region. The bipartisan legislation will allow individuals to claim any donations to the relief effort as an itemized deduction on their 2009 tax return, instead of waiting to claim it on their 2010 return.
